Our five-berth Winnebago was the perfect home for three, providing sanctuary from the wind and sun at Gnaraloo. After over-nighting in Geraldton, the drive to Carnarvon on the North West Coastal Highway was real outback stuff - mile upon mile of red dust, with the occasional road train coming the other way.
From Carnarvon, we passed along the southern edge of Lake MacLeod - more like salt flats at this time of year.
The road is criss-crossed by the “highways” used by mining companies to transport valuable iron ore.
The major downside of the Winne was its inability to handle the dusty track to the camp ground.
Once there though, we lived relatively well - evening meals were the highlight - Tania’s 5 star chilli, Owen’s tasty BBQs and a Thai special from Peter!
